Burton was born on Jan. 7, 1925, in Henderson, N.C., to the late Lelia Jeffery and Robert Burton.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen Twitty Burton; his sister, Dorothy Mae Burton-Terry; brothers: Robert, James, Joseph, and John Burton; sisters-in-law: Belle Burton, Ada Burton and Eula Mae Fields; and his brother-in-law, Henry Terry.He leaves to cherish his memories, his daughters: Shirley (Timothy) Purifory of Cleveland and Jackie Gallman of New Jersey; several grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.The body will lie in repose Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, from 9 a.m. till 7 p.m at Patton Funeral Home Chapel, 265 Fair Street S.E. Cleveland.The family will receive friends Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, from 2:30 p.m. until the 3 p.m. service time at the Christian Fellowship Center Church, 895 6th Street N.E. Pastor Martha Tibbs is officiating and Pastor Timothy Purifory will be the eulogist.Interment will be Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

He was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Jones; grandparents, William “Bill” Troupe and Emma Lou Jordan Troupe.Tommie, affectionately known as “Poo-pie,” was born on Oct. 3, 1971, in Oak Ridge, Tenn., to Carolyn Jean Troupe. He attended Oak Ridge High School, where he was a great football player and contributed significantly to the team’s success. Known for his superb, outgoing, and comical personality, people enjoyed talking with him because they knew he could brighten their day and make them laugh. Poo-pie always kept a smile on his face, and he never met a person with whom he could not communicate. A Good Samaritan, he consistently demonstrated a willingness to help others. Moreover, he enjoyed nothing better than spending time with his children, family, and friends. An enthusiastic sports fan, his favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Lakers. You could easily identify him by the hats he wore — they were fancy and often the topic of conversation among those with whom he came in contact.Tommie leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted and loving mother, Carolyn Jean Troupe; one devoted sister, Clarissa “Toot” (Alphonso) Davidson, Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Kelly and Mandrell Troupe, both of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; five sons, Tevin Lee, Trevez Smith, Shakur Ellis, Tomarrea Hurd, and Kyian Carroll, all of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; three daughters, Saniya Troupe and Kylie Martin, both of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Zy’Laysia Bazel of Claxton, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Drayis Mefford, Raelyn Grace, and Khloe Ellis; two nieces, Alquianna Davidson “Niecy” and Maliyah Troupe; two nephews, Lamarcus Colvin and Malachi Carroll; godson, Malachi Welch; two aunts, Bessie Mims, Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Elva Mae Clark, Hamilton, Miss.; two uncles, James Troupe, Baltimore, Md. and Charles Troupe, Hamilton, Miss.; special cousins, Antionetta “Ret” Sharp, Donna Troupe, Aretha Troupe, Asia Troupe, Albreona Troupe, and Cynthia Harris; devoted brother-in-law, Alphonso “Squirrel” Davidson; devoted ...
